ETF Assets and Net Issuance
March 2024
Washington, DC, April 29, 2024—The combined assets of the nation’s exchange-traded funds (ETFs) were $8.84 trillion in March, according to ICI. The Institute’s monthly statistical collection also includes the value of shares issued and redeemed by exchange-traded funds.
Statistics contained in the Institute’s monthly ETF report have been obtained from information provided to ICI by exchange-traded funds and commodity funds. Commodity funds are listed in the Domestic (Sector/Industry) category.

Highlights: Assets of all exchange-traded funds rose in March by $340.59 billion, or 4.0 percent, to $8.84 trillion. Over the past 12 months, ETF assets increased $1.96 trillion, or 28.5 percent. Assets in domestic equity ETFs increased $1.57 trillion since March 2023, and global equity ETF assets rose $198.14 billion during this period. At the end of March 2024, assets of bond funds were $1.53 trillion and hybrid funds were $36.51 billion and commodity funds were $139.28 billion.
During March, the value of all ETF shares issued exceeded that of shares redeemed by $112.12 billion. In March 2023, the value of all ETF shares issued exceeded that of shares redeemed by $36.32 billion.
